Safety Awards

USHA recognises the outstanding contribution and committment by staff and students towards developing and promoting health and safety within the higher education sector. The Safety Awards scheme recognises and celebrates the successes of USHA members within different categories.

The Safety Awards scheme is administered through a Safety Awards Nominations Sub-Committee, details of the categories and nomination procedures are set out below.

The Safety Rose Award

This prestigious award is given in recognition of the effort, success and contribution in developing and promoting health, safety and wellbeing within the HE sector. The award may be given to an individual, a team, a safety department, a regional group, a topic or sub group or other related worthy beneficiary.  The award may be in relation to the production of a guidance document, training video, seminar/conference, e-learning package etc which makes a significant contribution across the sector.

Excellence in Safety Award

This award is given in recognition of the effort, success and improvement within an institution bought about through the development and implementation of a safety related project or innovation.  This would include for example a successful institutional wide campaign with associated measured successes in relation to performance indicators. The award may given to an individual, team or a worthy beneficiary.

Student Award

This award and bursary maybe given to either an undergraduate or post graduate in recognition to their contribution and support in furthering health, safety and wellbeing within a project, research or campaign.

The awards are announced at the Annual Conference Dinner where successful nominees are presented with their award and bursaries. Awards may be accompanied by travel grants and bursaries to further the advancement of the subject area, both nationally and internationally.
