Welcome to the Emergency Planning in Higher Education Special Interest Group pages The Special Interest Group is currently inactive as the guidance document has been launched in March 2008, a review will be undertaken in 2013. USHA supported the HEFCE funded initiative to develop the "Planning for and Managing Emergencies, A good practice guide of HEIs" through its participation in the steering group organised by AUCSO (Association of University Chief Security Officers). The guide provides information on the good practice in emergency management and aims to assist HEIs in developing their ability to respond to emergencies. A key objective is to link emergency planning within HEIs into national emergency planning frameworks with the Cabinet Office Emergency Planning College being a crucial partner in this development. The key messages and implications presented within the guide are relevant to anyone within an HEI, from Vice Chancellors and Senior Management through to operational staff at departmental level. Copies were circulated to all Vice Chancellors. Contact AUCSO for further copies. USHA members can also upload and contribute to the information resources within the GAP (Guidance and Policies) where risk assessments and business continuity and emergency planning documents within the HE sector can be shared. Training and competence in emergency planning Cabinet Office Emergency Planning College provide a residential training course specifically aimed at staff within the HE sector. USHA has arranged a 5% discount for members attending the course, contact the USHA Executive Officer and Development Officer to verify and access your discount.
