With over 150 UK based Universities and Research Institutions, together with Further Education colleges, European and International Universities, currently as members, USHA is the leading health and safety association within the Higher Education sector in the UK.
There are over 1500 safety practitioners working within the higher education sector together with academic and research staff with safety management or teaching responibility. Membership is institutional.

There are 3 categories of membership:
- Full voting member - UK Universities or Research Institutions with degree awarding ability
- Non voting member - Further Education colleges, Research Institutions, international universities or other organisations (subject to approval by the USHA Executive Committee)
- Honorary member - Awarded to retired HE safety practitioners (subject to nomination and approval by executive committee)
Student Unions Staff and safety advisers working within student unions will be included as part of the university institutional membership.
