History

The Association held its first meeting in 1971 with a small nucleus of University Safety Officers.  The full and associate membership is now approximately one hundred and fifty and includes both Universities and Colleges for Further Education.

Objectives

The objective of the USHA is to provide an organisation for the exchange of information on all aspects of health and safety, environmental health, training and related topics.  The Association liaises with other bodies having similar aims.  It conducts educative meetings and publishes information for the benefit of its members and other interested parties on a regular basis.

Organisation

The Association is managed by an Executive Committee consisting of a Chair (who serves for a two year period), Honorary Secretary, Honorary Treasurer and four other members.  The officers and executive are elected at the Annual General Meeting.

Membership

Full membership is open to a representative appointed by each University.  In nearly all cases, this is the establishment's Safety Officer/Adviser.

Associate membership is open to representatives appointed by other educational and associated establishments, at the discretion of the Executive Committee.

The USHA has an international element, with contributors from as far a field as New Zealand and Hong Kong.

Applications for full or associate membership should be sent to:
