Managing your Hasnet Membership and Posting
If you have a query regarding any of the Hasnet Groups and you could not find the answer below please contact Mark Hoare the Hasnet Co-ordinator.
| Posting to Hasnet lists | Changing email addresses | Hasnet archives |
| Protocol | Joining, leaving and temporarily suspending list membership |
When you join a Hasnet list posting instructions are automatically sent to you.
To post to a hasnet list send an e-mail to XXX@jiscmail.ac.uk. where XXX is the list name e.g. hasnet-link@jiscmail.ac.uk hasnet-midlands@jiscmail.ac.uk
Please observe the following protocol when using Hasnet Lists
Use of lists
The main lists (i.e. hasnet-link, oh, rad, fire, ISTR ) are to be used to exchange ideas/seek advice on health and safety issues that are of interest to everyone on the list. 'Administrative' issues, e.g. the arranging of meetings, replying to individuals etc. should not be done on the main hasnet lists.
If you want to set up lists, e.g. regional groups, steering groups, working parties etc. where 'administrative' issues can be discussed please contact the hasnet co-ordinator.
Signatures/end tags
Please make sure you end your posting with your name and email address. This is important in case someone wants to reply only to the person who posted the message rather than the whole list.
Automatic 'Out of Office' replies
If you set your email to send 'Out of Office' replies make sure you suspend your hasnet mail. If you do not list members will receive your 'Out of Office' reply each time they send a message.
(See below: Temporarily suspending yourself from Hasnet mailing lists.)
Joining, Leaving and Suspending Membership of Hasnet Lists
To join a list
See Hasnet web page
To permanently leave a list:
Send an email to jiscmail@jiscmail.ac.uk containing nothing but the following
unsubscribe XXX@jiscmail.ac.uk. where XXX is the list name e.g
unsubscribe hasnet-oh unsubscribe hasnet-fire
etc. depending which list you wish to leave.
If you wish to leave all lists
unsubscribe *
(n.b. no subject, footers, signatures etc. Leave a space between 'unsubscribe' and list name or *)
Temporarily suspending yourself from Hasnet mailing lists
If you wish to suspend your hasnet mail (for holidays etc):
Send an email to jiscmail@jiscmail.ac.uk containing nothing but the following
set * nomail
(n.b. no subject, footers, signatures etc. Leave a space either side of *)
This will suspend you from all the lists you are on.
Always do this if you set your e-mail to 'out of office' reply. (If not the whole list gets the out of office message each time an e-mail is sent to the list.)
Rejoining Hasnet mailing lists following temporary suspension
When you want to rejoin:
Send an email to jiscmail@jiscmail.ac.uk containing nothing but the following
set * mail
(n.b. no subject, footers, signatures etc. Leave a space either side of *)
This will re-instate you to all the lists you are on.
If your email address changes you must notify the Hasnet Co-ordinator. You will be able to send mail for a short while with a changed address but not receive any. After a short while the jiscmail system automatically removes you from the lists.
All hasnet messages are archived and may be accessed via the web using the following URL descriptor.
www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/XXX.html
where XXX is the list name e.g www.jiscmail.ac.uk/lists/hasnet-link.html
If you are using these links for the first time you will need to register your e-mail address and a password.
If you have forgotten your password you will have to choose another.
To register for the first time, change your password or if you have forgotten your password click here and follow the instructions.
